A Place Appointed for You

A Place Appointed For You

“Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them any more 1 Chronicles 17:9 & 2 Samuel 7: 10,

The LORD has a place that He appointed and covenanted to each of us. It can be a relationship, geographical, or spiritual location. Everything He does in our lives is timed, even our birth and the location He sent us to was timed. No matter how we were conceived, God purposed for each of us to be sent to earth the time we were born. He had our purpose already written out in our books in heaven. We cannot fully realize our potential or fulfill our destinies until we step into the appointed place, at the right time, with the right relationships. Moreover, where the LORD appoints, He provides and protects.

The bible gives several accounts of men and women that were able to step into their destiny and as a result, God waxed strong through them. To name a few: Joshua, Esther, Daniel, Elisha, David, and Paul. However, in this blog we will focus on a specific season in Elijah’s life.

There was a famine in Israel that lasted for three years. During that time, the Lord appointed Elijah to go camp out at one of River Jordan’s tributaries, the Brook Cherith. There, He commanded the ravens to feed him, and drank water from the Brook Cherith.

1 Kings 17: 2-4, 6 “Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, ‘Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there. And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drunk from the brook.

The LORD brings us into His perfect will step by step. He will lead us to the next step only if we obey the first step. As in the example of Elijah, He first directed him to go to the Brook Cherith. When the brook dried, He then directed him to go to the widow of Zarephath, where He commanded a widow to feed him.

1 Kings 17: 7-9, “And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, ‘Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”

When Elijah got to the gate of the city of Zarephath, indeed the widow was there gathering sticks to go prepare her last meal. She had just a handful of flour and a little oil in a jar, just enough for a small meal for her and her son. She had given up hope, she was preparing her last meal, believing that she would die. I don’t believe that this woman was at the city gate, at the exact time Elijah got, there by coincidence. This was a divine appointment. I believe the angels of the Lord led her there, and kept her there until Elijah showed up.

Elijah gave her instructions to bring him her last meal. And prophesied over her stating that, ‘Thus says the LORD GOD of Israel: “The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the LORD sends rain on the earth” (1 Kings 17:14). She was afraid but obeyed the instructions of the prophet. As a result, the bin of the flour and the jar of oil never ran dry until the famine broke from the land (verse 15-16).

Elijah did not suffer the consequences of the famine that hit the land of Israel. While others were dying of hunger and thirst, Elijah was fed by ravens and drank water from the Brook Cherith. When the season at the brook came to an end, the Lord directed him to go to the widow of Zarephath. 1 Kings 17: 15-17, as a result of Elijah’s act of obedience the LORD blessed the widow of Zarephath. Her jar of oil never ran dry and her flour never ran out. She was blessed, Elijah was fed until the famine subsided. This was possible because they heard the voice of the Lord and chose to obey even when it didn’t make sense!

In conclusion:

  • Your provision, protection, divine connections, favor and blessings are waiting for you at the place and time God has appointed you.
  • As a plant flourishes in the right soil, with the right amount of light, water and minerals, a person can only flourish in the place God has appointed them. This can be ministry or business or author, or politician or home maker. Whatever your calling is, there is a place for you to be planted to accomplish that call.
  • It is our responsibility to discern the time and place, then move in.
  • It is when we step into that place that we breakthrough, break-out and possess our inheritance.

May the Lord guide you through 2021 to the place that He has commanded blessings for you, In Jesus’ name. Amen

Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope
